On August 29, 2017 HCE President Andrea Holtz, along with HCE engineers Christine Miranda and Kaitlin Wood attended the “Solving for X in the Y Domain” seminar in Orlando, FL presented by FSAWWA. At this event, our staff had the chance to share experiences with other women in the water and wastewater engineering community and discuss strategies for success in a historically male-dominated field. In addition to benefiting the women in our community, this event was held at the beautiful Second Harvest Food Bank to support feeding Florida families. We plan to use the knowledge and information gained from this presentation to further educate the men and women we encounter about creating a more supportive and inclusive workplace, and how to recognize and break through gender stereotypes. We would like to thank presenter Gae Walters for an incredibly inspirational day of learning.
